IGA Deals 9/22 - 9/27

Next week is a really good week for a few things at IGA.

There is a $5/10 coupon in there & if you read the fine print, it is good for more than just the 4 things that are shown in the picture. If you combine them w/ recent coupons, you can get fruit snacks for about 67 cents a box & toaster strudels for $1/box.

Also, there was a $1.00 coupon for Green Giant Fresh Steamers (frozen veggies) in the coupons recently & they are 10/10 this week, making them free!

Wal-Mart Deals

I got $50.40 worth of groceries at Wal-Mart for $15.53 this week.

I didn't buy anything I won't use and I didn't buy anything I didn't have a coupon for.

I did it all with a little help from The Centsible Sawyer. Check it out HERE.

Some of the best deals are in the All You magazine. You should definitely get an Aug. 29th edition if you haven't yet. There are 5 of those "buy 3 Kraft products and get _____ free". Of course Kool-Aid is a Kraft product so you can get a bottle of salad dressing, a canister of Crystal Light, a pack of Kraft Singles cheese, a box of Wheat Thins and a pack of Oscar Meyer hot dogs for the price of three Kool-Aid packs each.

If you are here in Greenville IGA is running 10 for $1 on Kool-Aid so each of the prodcuts mentioned above would cost you 30 cents!!

The message board has always been correct on such things, so if you are going to be around an Old Navy on Sat., might be worth checking out.

Savings in Greenville

Beth says:

I wanted to let you know I purchased the "Comet Card" put out by GHS
athletics. It is an awesome card this year! Many of the restaurants
in town have offered 15% off total bill, there are discounts at True Value, but
the best deal on the whole card is bogo free tickets at the Globe Theatre
Sun-Thurs! This card has unlimited uses and is good for a year! It
costs $10 and can be purchased by student athletes. I purchased mine at
Jo's Java.

We usually get one of these too and use it quite a bit...especially for Domino's Pizza. Give it a try.

WalMart

Look at these WalMart freebies HERE

Freebies like these - shampoo, deodorant, etc. are good to have around for when you go out of town. They usually come in trial size.

CVS

Did any of you look at the CVS ad for this week online? It isn't the same one that we have here in Greenville. I'm not sure why this is. Do any of you know?

There are a few good things on sale this week.

Alberto VO5 is on sale 2/$1. This amounts to half off the original price.

Colgate toothpaste or toothbrushes (read the ad to see which colgate items are on sale) are 2/$3 look for a coupon to make this a little better deal.

Irish Spring bar soap 3 pack is on sale for 99cents. In this week's Post Dispatch there was a coupon for 30 cents off. Get 3 bars for 70 cents.

How are you guys doing getting deals at CVS?

Coupon Tip

Did you know that some coupons don't specify the size of the item that you have to purchase? For instance I had a coupon that was $3 off of two Head and Shoulders shampoos. The coupon did not say the shampoo had to be a certain size. I found trial size Head and Shoulders shampoo at WalMart and used this coupon to get them free!

Before you throw away coupons look to see if they specify a size, if not save them and look at the trial size items at whatever store you go to. You could end up getting lots of free things.

New Look

Well, I was tired of brown...what can I say.

Be the first person to mention the new look to me tonight at the Coupon Club meeting and win a prize.

Beer Bread

I just found two recipes for making your own Beer Bread...it is supposed to taste very similar to the Tastefully Simple version and costs approximately 1/5 as much to make as buying the mix.

HERE is the link.

Yum, Yum, Yum!

If you need to go to St. L for any reason make sure you do it on July 30th.

While you're there stop by the Cheesecake Factory in the Galeria for a $1.50 piece of cheesecake. (And trust me, their cheesecake slices are the $10 size.)

HERE are the details.

I'm so sad I'll be on vacation. Hey, maybe there is a Cheesecake Factory in Paducah, Kentucky. Gotta check.

School Supply Deals

Office Depot may be an even cheaper place to buy school supplies than Wal-Mart. Check out the deals HERE.

And here is a tip about buying school supplies.

The stores put all of the school supplies together in one spot to make shopping for them easier. The problem? They only put the name brand items in the school supply section. So don't forget to go on out in to the store to find the cheaper generic version of things like Kleenex, anti-bacterial wipes, Germ-X, etc.

Money Maker

Even better than a freebie....HERE is a money maker from BeCentsable.

Free Movies

Here is some info from Missy D. about free Fisher Price movies:

I have ordered free DVD's from Fisher Price before & they always come. Here are the 2 latest they have. You do not have to enter CC info. You know, they want your kids to fall in love with the characters & buy their toys. :)

On one of them, I got a screen saying that due to high volume I needed to come back later to place my order, I just hit my back button & ordered again & it went through fine.

http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=5477&e=dvd - Planet Heroes. There are 2 you can get for free right now, Here Comes The Sun and The Ace That Jumped Over The Moon. Just click on where it says get the dvd for free. We have Ace in Space & Here Comes The Sun, my kids LOVE these. They are full length, 1/2 hour episodes.

https://store.mattel.com/transition.aspx?TransitionID=139 - Geo Trax - Team Geo Trax All Aboard! Just select country at top right on screen.

Hello, McFly??

Sorry I've been M.I.A from the couponing scene lately. We've been out of town a lot and frankly I haven't felt like CVS has had much to offer in the way of good deals lately anyway. There weren't any ad flyers in the newspaper because of July 4th either.

But never fear there will be more info coming soon....including another coupon club meeting. Check back for details.

Super Deal at CVS

You may have seen this on some other blogs but Gina tried it here in Greenville and it did work.

The CVS face cleansing cloths cost $2.99 and are giving $2.99 in ECBs.

The paper said that they would only give $1.

Also you can print a $2 OFF COUPON FROM THE CVS BEAUTY HANDBOOK to use with the purchase and you will make money!!

CVS Money

It is the end of the quarter at CVS which means we all get paid. Yippee!

When you shop in July you will get your quarterly money back.

Look for the coupon on the end of your receipt.

IGA Deal

Gina found the following deal at IGA this week.

When you buy 5 jars of Planters peanuts at one time (on sale for $2.50) you get a coupon for $6.50 off your next grocery purchase (basically $6.50 in IGA bucks). That makes them only $1.20/jar.

PLUS if you combine it with the $5 off 10 certain products coupon that is in the sale bill & get say 5 peanuts & 5 Kraft cheeses, you would get all 10 items for only 98 cents each!!!

New to CVSing?

If you are new to CVSing (defined as: getting stuff for free or next to free weekly at CVS) then you need to read FishMama's tutorial HERE.

She gives you the step by step for building your ECBs and saving money at CVS. The tutorial is geared directly for this week's (and month's) deals.

This is a must read if you aren't already taking advantage of all of the deals at CVS.

*Remember: Today starts the July deals. You should probably get them a.s.a.p since we know our store doesn't have a very good track record of reordering sale items.

CVS 6-29 thru 7-5

Not much is a really good deal, considering they don't have the mascara, but the Right Guard is still a good one.

Buy one RightGuard deoderant for 6.99. Use the $1 coupon from the May 18th Smart Source (SS 5-18) and get $5 ECBs.

That means that you will pay $5.99 for a stick of deoderant and CVS will pay you $5 after you buy it. Deo for 99 cents. Not bad.

If you have ECBs from a previous transaction (like I did) you can pay with them and end up paying just pennies out of pocket for the deoderant.

That's how we play the CVS game.

For all the deals at CVS this week click HERE.

New to GGG

If you are new to the Greenville Grocery Geeks site let me explain a little about how it works.

We will keep you updated with a few deals here and there but the real value of this site is the sidebar. Look over there to the right and you will see all kinds of links.

These sites will tell you exactly what is on sale at which store when and where you can get the coupon to use for that same product. We will let you know if the particular deals mentioned work or don't work in local stores.

The same goes for CVS. Centsible Sawyer and I Heart CVS will tell you the best weekly and monthly deals and we will let you know when they don't work here in Greenville because they don't have the stuff in stock if they are all working here in town.

We also have monthly meetings to share coupons and money saving advice as well as collect expired coupons to donate to military families and extra CVS products to donate to charities as well. (Right now we are collecting toiletries to go to Ninos de Mexico.) It helps to hear how other women are doing with their battles against food costs.

So...what should you do now?

1. Keep reading the blog and check the blogs listed at the right pretty often.
2. Buy a paper every Sunday and keep the ad flyers.
3. Label the ad flyers by date and clip the coupons listed on the blogs. (There is no need to clip all of them...just wait until you need one. They are easier to find if they are all in the flyers.)

That's about it. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment on this blog at anytime and we will e-mail you with an answer...or post it on the blog.

Happy couponing!

Surprise, Surprise

Two surprises (not the good kind) for you.

Surprise #1: The Thomas the Tank Engine coupon from Toys R Us does not work. Bummer!

Surprise #2: CVS does not carry the Physicians Formula mascara that pays you $1 to take it after coupons and ECBs. Why am I not surprised?

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Coupon Club Meeting

Don't forget our meeting tomorrow night at 6 at Gina's house.

Vocalpoint

Check out this info from Freebies4Mom about Vocalpoint.

They send you free samples and coupons in the mail.

I signed up. It's worth a try.

Tava Deal

I have never heard of Tava, or tasted it for that matter, but for$0.48 for a 4 pack I'll try anything.

Apparently it is a calorie free fruit drink.

Go here to print your $1.50/1 coupon. (You'll have to listen to their annoying music, but it's worth it.)

Especially since I was able to refresh and print the coupon 4 times!!

The are regularly $1.98 for a 4 pack at Wal-Mart.

Grocery Gathering

Be sure to go to BeCentsAble and click on The Grocery Gathering.

There are a lot of new deals in the Wal-Mart section.

Handy Tip: Keep BeCentsAble open in two tabs. Every time you go to print a printable coupon you navigate away from the site. If you have it open in another tab you can just scoot back over there after you're done printing the coupons.

Free Cereal

There are 3 different Malt-O-Meal coupons here for $1 off.

Many stores (Wal-Mart, CVS, Target) carry the small boxes and bags of Malt-O-Meal cereals for $1 anyway.

You can print each coupon twice.

SIX FREE BOXES OF CEREAL!!!!

Problems at CVS

Problem #1: Keeping items in stock.

CVS is already out of the Oral-B CrossAction toothbrushes and it is only Monday!!

This is getting to be a habit with them. I bought the last two SmartRinse mouthwashes on June 1st and they still do not have any in stock. That is 15 days and they still haven't restocked them. When you complain about these things they will tell you that they restock the shelves on Thursdays...however obviously a couple of Thursdays have come and gone since then and they still haven't restocked the mouthwash.

What you can do about it:

  • Complain to the store manager. The squeeky wheel gets the grease.
  • Ask for a rain check. (If you are getting a rain check for an item that is only on sale or generating ECBs for that specific week you will have to buy the "invisible" items and then they will give you a raincheck that says you already paid. You bring that raincheck in later when the item is in stock and get your items.)
  • Complain to CVS national offices. Sometimes your receipt will have a toll free number you can call to take a poll. You can tell them exactly how you feel and what you couldn't find, etc.

Problem #2: Having the wrong size for the sale price.

Today I went to buy the Alavert. The 6.99 sale price and $5 ECBs were for the 12 or 15 count boxes. CVS didn't have anything smaller than 18 count. I asked the manager (Lori, now I know her name) and she said that the 18 count boxes were bonus packs (originally marked 12 ct. but boosted to 18) and would count for the sale price and the ECBs. She was right. It all worked when I checked out.

What you can do about it:

  • Always ask the manager. Those Alaverts were not marked in any way shape or form. They didn't say they were on sale for 6.99 or that they gave ECBs...but they did.
  • Know your sale flyer. Keep it with you at all times in order to show clerks and manager they exact items and sizes.

I hope this helps you all.

Coupon Club Meeting!!

The next meeting of the coupon club will be:

Wednesday, June 25th
6 pm
Gina Kester's House
610 LaDue
Hope to see you all there.
Don't forget to bring:
1. expired coupons
2. coupons to share
3. details (verbal is fine) of your best deal of the month
4. extra products to send to Ninos de Mexico with Crystal

Toothbrush Deals at CVS

This week's Smart Source insert has a BOGO coupon for the same Oral B Cross Action Toothbrushes that are giving ECB's at CVS.

They are $5.99 each and produce $3 in ECBs. With the BOGO coupon they are free.

There is also a coupon in the June P&G insert for these toothbrushes, so it pays to do the deal twice. (The limit is 5.)

Alavert CVS Deal

Go here to print off a $4/1 Alavert coupon.

(I've read that you can hit back and refresh and print two of them but that didn't work on my computer. Instead I entered Brian's info the second time and it printed another one.)

Alavert is giving $5 ECB's at CVS this week when you purchase two at $6.99.

If you use two $4/1 coupons you will be spending 5.98 and earning $5.

$0.98 cents for 2 allergy meds is quite a deal!

Tips From Liz

1.)The Huggies Rebate has been extended until June 15th so take advantage of it while Huggies are on sale at CVS this week.

2.)For those who like mulitgrain pancakes but not the higher mix prices, here is a great recipe to make a dry mix yourself at home.

http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=522813

I made a double batch of the dry mix last night, and then made up some pancakes this morning. Both my husband and 23 month old asked for more! We ate them with applesauce and honey or syrup.

Here are the wet ingredients to prepare:
http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=521442

Substitutions and additives: I didn't have wheat bran so I just used 1/8 cup extra wheat germ and 1/8 cup soy flour per batch. I also used regular wheat germ (not toasted) since it's what I had on hand. When preparing I used regular milk, not buttermilk (again, what I had on hand) and I added a good shake of cinnamon and nutmeg for added flavor. They were good, fluffy, and textured, yet not gritty.

For those who live here, the health food store in Highland has great prices on all these grains.

3.)Finally, save the gas money and eat at home :-) We tried a great new chicken recipe on the grill last night, I mean like something you would get at Chilli's!

We marinaded the 2 Large chicken breasts (for about 6 hours) in:1/4 cup of lime juice, 3 -4 cloves of garlic pressed, 1-2 Tbsp. olive oil, 1 Tbsp. Chilli powder, 2 tsp. cumin.

Before grilling we butterflied the breasts (cut to make thin and even) then we place them on a very hot grill, but lowered the heat after initial searing. Cooked just a few minutes on each side, until internal temp reached 170 degrees (don't over cook it, use a thermometer, this is the key to great chicken!).

Take off the grill, let sit a few minutes, then slice up for salad, nachos, wraps, or cover with salsa and eat whole. They were excellent!!!

Combining these probably means free product!

Also...it's not just baby stuff; I'm interested in the sore throat strips

Cleaning Coupons

Kid's Health Matters has several printable coupons available right now for Tide, Biz, Pledge and some kind of dog food.

You have to register and then check you e-mail and go back to the site. The coupons are in PDF format. Don't print the whole screen just click on the little camera icon at the top and draw a square around the coupon part. It will save it to your clipboard automatically and then you can print them all on one sheet of paper in Word or something like that.

Here is the link.

Drugs...Yay!

The legal kind.

Gina just found a site called Internet Drug Coupons.

It has links to several over the counter drug coupons (like Mylanta or Advil or Tums). So...when you see something in the CVS sale bill, you can go here & easily see if there is a printable coupon to go along with the ECB rebate. They're alphabetized, so it's way simple.

Using coupons on top of CVS deals is the best way to really cash in at the store.

$5 off a $15 purchase at CVS

I visited I heart CVS today and saw this coupon! We have a link to this blog. All you have to do is click on CVS coupons and scroll down untill you see this coupon. She explains how to do it. You will have to sign up for a free e-newspaper. You will be able to print several of these! They will expire 6-1 though. This will prove even more beneficial to you after you attend our coupon club meeting. Happy CVSing

Free Swimming Fun

If you register in the computer system at the Korte Rec Center in Highland for the first time they will give you a pass for your whole family (whoever registers) to come back for free.

We have been to the Rec Center many times but apparently we weren't in their system. A couple of months ago when we went they asked for our address, telephone, etc. to put in their system and then gave us the coupon for a free visit.

We plan to use it tonight. It expire tomorrow. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

Free Cereal at CVS

Actually it is better than free. You get paid $0.50 to eat it.

Yep that's right! Malt-O-Meal is $1.00 a box at CVS right now.

Click here to print a coupon for $1.50 off of any Malt-O-Meal cereal. Also go to Maltomeal.com and you can print a $1.00 off coupon.

(From what I've read CVS will not pay you the overage (Wal-Mart will) so you'll need to buy something else to use up the 50 cents and a little more.)

*Note: The linked coupon is a "bricks" coupon. That means you can print it from home when you install the coupon printer. You only have to install it once and then you can use it for all "bricks" coupons.

Also, "bricks" coupons can usually be printed more than once. After the first one starts printing you can hit the "back" button and then the "refresh" button and it will print again. Sometimes you can do this multiple times and end up with 5 or even 10 of the same coupon.

WooHooo lots of cereal!!!
